چکیده

We have implemented a photothermal absorbance strategy where optical absorbance induced solvent temperature increases are monitored using electrolyte conductivity. This method produces a response that is independent of pathlength, assuming thermal conductivity issues can be neglected, and has been suggested to be an interesting approach for use in capillary-based systems, but sensitivity was found to be limited [1,2]. Incorporating metal thin film electrodes into a microfluidic device has proven to be a sensitive and effective conductivity device for photothermal detection [3]. Optimization and application of this device will be discussed.

Solid phase-enhanced photothermal lensing with mesoporous polymethacrylate matrices for optical-sensing chemical analysis.

Procedures for the photothermal lens determination of metals and organic compounds, on the basis of solid-phase mesoporous optical-sensing materials (polymethacrylate [PMA]) matrices with immobilized reagents, were developed. These procedures combine (i) selective and efficient preconcentration of trace substances to be analyzed in specially designed and synthesized transparent mesoporous PMA p...

Recent Developments in Optical Detection Technologies in Lab-on-a-Chip Devices for Biosensing Applications

The field of microfluidics has yet to develop practical devices that provide real clinical value. One of the main reasons for this is the difficulty in realizing low-cost, sensitive, reproducible, and portable analyte detection microfluidic systems. Previous research has addressed two main approaches for the detection technologies in lab-on-a-chip devices: (a) study of the compatibility of conv...

Cell detection and counting through cell lysate impedance spectroscopy in microfluidic devices.

Cell-based microfluidic devices have attracted interest for a wide range of applications. While optical cell counting and flow cytometry-type devices have been reported extensively, sensitive and efficient non-optical methods to detect and quantify cells attached over large surface areas within microdevices are generally lacking. We describe an electrical method for counting cells based on the ...

Optical fiber photoacoustic-photothermal probe.

We describe the operation of an all-optical probe that provides an alternative means of implementing photoacoustic and photothermal investigative techniques, particularly those used in biomedical applications. The probe is based on a transparent, acoustically and thermally sensitive Fabry-Perot polymer film sensor mounted at the end of an optical fiber. We demonstrate the ability of the system ...
